Dr Karem Roitman

My passion for inclusive, creative education comes from my own experiences as the granddaughter of refugees, an immigrant, and a woman of colour.

My expertise has been developed through academic work (DPhil Oxford); research, and, most importantly, through over 20 years working with thousands of students and educators in around the world.

Below are some of the topics I can offer expertise on.

Vision

I am a trained ethical and educational philosopher who works in education in a global context. Every group I work with is unique and it is my job to understand their needs and work to serve them.

Topics of Expertise

Project Based Learning

Let's discuss why project based learning is a fantastic educational tool, allowing students and teachers to develop the skills needed for an uncertain future.

Critical Thinking

What does it mean to be a critical thinker and why does it matter? We will explore tools - from philosophy and the social sciences - to sharpen our reasoning and analysis.

Creative Thinking

Humans are born creators. Creating is an integral part of our wellbeing and a need if we are to have a future. We can discuss why creativity is needed and try out a series of fun exercises to build up our creative self-esteem.

Leadership

Leadership is not standing in front of a group and being loud. It is knowing where you are heading and inspiring others to find their own path. Leadership training allows teams to work better and foments individual wellbeing.

Communication

As an immigrant, I once lost my tongue. Quite literally, I found myself unable to speak, suffering from selective mutism. Since then I have considered what it means to communicate, how to do it across languages and cultures, and how to support others finding their voices.

Ethics

There is no point to education if it does not ask us to question our why. What are our intentions, what will what we do cause? Our world faces an ethical challenge and it is our job as educators to give students tools to consider their motivations and drivers.

Agency

How can we create spaces where we can act - and help others act? Being agents in our life is crucial for our wellbeing but it requires skills, motivation, and guidance.  We will discuss what can limit agency and how we can change these limitations.

Diversity and Inclusion

We cannot move forward if we ignore the gifts and wisdom of others. This requires humble listening and open spaces where everyone can participate. Inclusion is about justice and wellbeing. It requires an understanding of diversity (including neurodiversity), ourselves, and our goals.
